Darren Sproles, A Super Bowl Champion

Congratulations Darren Sproles!

Congratulations to Darren Sproles, and his Philadelphia Eagles on winning the Super Bowl "52"!

Although Darren Sproles was injured early on in the 2017-2018 season, his impact on the Eagles has been felt since his arrival from the New Orleans Saints in 2014.

Darren Sproles (Olathe North 2001), joines Ryan Lilja, of SM Northwest (Class of 2000), Don Davis (2x Super Bowl Champion in New England 2004-2005; Olathe South 1992) as the only three Sunflower League Football alumni to win a Super Bowl, participate in multiple Super Bowls, and win.

The impact of Darren Sproles within the City of Olathe, in addition to his tireless work-ethic is known all over the Kansas City area. While, rumored, it is true, that at times, in the off-season, you can find, him at the Olathe North Track consistently getting better to gain speed and strength which are his biggest assets to a team on the offensive side of the ball.

For those keeping a running total, this is his fourth Title (State, or NFL) that he has won under an "Eagles" moniker as an athlete.

Congratulations once again, to a Sunflower League Football legend, and to the Sproles family!

Super Bowl Sunflower Style

Have you dreamed of playing in the Super Bowl?

Do you have what it takes? Do you spend that extra time before, and after practice, in addition to the weight room? How important is that goal of yours?

Despite all of those questions, you can make it. We all can.

In the State of Kansas, there are a documented 249 former student-athletes state wide that have played in the NFL (National Football League.) While this blog is catered to the Sunflower League, and portions of other local High Schools in the post-season, it is a dream that those 249 (inactive, and active) professional athletes have achieved.

The Sunflower League is fortunate to be represented in the Super Bowl by one Ryan Lilja (SM Northwest 2000.) He was able to play along side Peyton Manning as his Center (C) and return home to play for our Kansas City Chiefs before retiring.

Another notable is Don Davis. Don starred for the starred for the Olathe South Falcons at the early move of the Olathe North Eagles, and Falcons after leaving the EKL to SFL in the Fall of the 1989 season. Don Davis played in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriot in 2001 with the St. Louis Rams.

Although injured, participating in his second Super Bowl is the Olathe North Eagles own local hero in Darren Sproles. Darren Sproles first Super Bowl appearance came in 2008 against the New England Patriots. Although it was a loss, to the Patriots, he is the third student-athlete alumni of the Sunflower League to participate. During the 2017 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was injured after playing in only three (3) regular season games. At one point it was known that retirement was considered but hopes to return healthy for the 2018 NFL season.

Best of luck to the Sproles family and the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl!
