The Flexbone Offense is en route to Colorado
Entering the 2018 Football season, the former SM East Lancers Football Coach Dustin Delaney will join the Eaglecrest Raptors in Colorado.
He will be taking with him, his Flexbone offense, and will begin a new start with a host of student-athletes who will, and in time learn a lot about the game of Football and life from him.
Dustin Delaney's impact on his current and former Lancers, and Spartans student-athletes will be missed in his tenure of Coaching in the large class of 5 and 6A Kansas High School Football.
Although his Lancers fell short of their team expectations for the 2017 season, the spark he provided Prairie Village, KS from 2013 to 2017 will be felt for years to come.
For a downtrodden program in the 70's 80's 90's and much of the 00's the Lancers seemed destined to achieve their 2-7, 3-6, and a handful of 4-5 or 5-4 seasons most of us have been used to for years. This current stretch from 2010 to 2017 with a combination of Chip Sherman and Dustin Delaney have provided Lancer Football fans an overall record of 74W-17L in 91 Games Coached. Those numbers alone had never previously been achieved in the four decade of Football prior.
This five (5) year tenure, also included a 13W-4L playoff record, and a domination against the Olathe North Eagles Football team that had never been accomplished by past Lancer Head Coaches.
An 11-2 season in 2013 brought Prairie Village, KS by surprise and although the Lancers fell to the Derby Panthers a lot was learned by the team and the school as it had possibly found a niche in the Football talks across the state of Kansas. In 2014, those Lancers were driven to accomplish a goal of a 6A State Football Title which was brought home to 7500 Mission Road after 56 years of work to make it happen.
The team as a whole accomplished more than it could have ever dreamed in this era of the SMSD #512 Football history.
Dustin Delaney's 52-8 record in 60 games coached, ranks him #21 of the top #25 Football Coaches in the history of the Sunflower League from 1954 to 2017. He only trails Arch Unruh (SM East 1959-1971-13 seasons) at 54-48-5 in all standings measured of the 92 Football Coaches.
Congratulations to the Eaglecrest Raptors, as they can only build on what Dustin Delaney's Lancers achieved under his guidance.
