2016 Olathe East Hawks - Silver Anniversary Season #25

Much like the SM South Raiders celebrated their 50th season during 2015, and achieving a special #250at50 win vs the SM Northwest Cougars, the Olathe East Hawks will begin 2016 with a bang at their 25th Football season ascends on the summer gridiron #7v7 and other off-season preparations. To the Hawks faithful, make this a great Anniversary season as your work on the field has shown it representing the Sunflower League and Johnson County each year. Your tradition is strong and continues to grow every season.

Head Coach Jesse Owen, begins his second season with a lot to look forward to and another road trip to kick off the year.

In only their second meeting, the Olathe East Hawks will be on the road at the Hutchinson SaltHawks for a week-1 game.

The last time these two met, was in the 2005 6A State Final. The SaltHawks came away with the W that day 24-7, ending the Hawks season with a 12-1 record, and snapping a 12 game winning streak that left many of their Sunflower opponents in the dust that season. To date, this was the highest finish ever in the Hawks Football program.

With both Randy Dreiling (now at ST Aquinas) and Jeff Meyers (AC at William Chrisman) the regimes of both schools have changed drastically. Second year Head Coach Jesse Owen (Olathe North alumni) will lead Olathe East against third year Head Coach of Hutchinson Ryan Cornelson (formerly of LaCrosse and Hays).

These two Football minds will both be looking to get off to a fast start as the season gets under way. Returning players for the Hawks will have plenty of bus experience to pass on to the younger Student-athletes on what to prepare for against a very good SaltHawks program. If you can recall their start to 2015, the SaltHawks came in to CBAC and crushed the Olathe South Falcons in week-1. Will the week-1 road trip assist the Hawks two years in a row? Anything is possible, Hutch is 14-9 under Cornelson entering year #3.

Can Olathe East do the same in return? Although there is no true rivalry between these schools, Hutch will make a return trip to Olathe for the 2017 season.
